Street Rod

That "Grease Lightning" bit from the movie Grease Y’know that “Grease Lightning” bit from the movie Grease – the bit where they hot-rod the car and then go racing?  Well this is essentially a video-game of that.  You have two months to get yourself and your car ready to challenge the current King of the Road.

The game is set in the 60′s and you start the game with an empty garage.  Check the local paper and find something within your budget.  Once you’ve bought it, your new car arrives and then you can go to work on it – tune your engine, chop off bumpers and the roof, buy new parts, repaint with new colours and decals.

Of course, your car is still pretty slow but many of the races are for pink slips and you’ll soon find yourself with better cars and / or more money to get them.  You find opponents by hanging out at the local diner and once you accept a challenge it’s out on to the open road to show them what you’re made of.

The driving engine in Street Rod was marginally better than Accolade’s Test Drive series, which was popular at the time, though this was not the game’s primary focus.

The customisation section of the game has yet to be beaten, though titles like Need for Speed Underground are getting close.
