Stunt Race FX
Stunt Race FX was the second game to utilise the Argonaut-designed FX chip after the extremely successful Starfox. 3D was taking off in the arcade and the 3mhz chip that ran the Super Nintendo was not really up to it, so Nintendo released their co-processor on the cartridge itself.
The 3D is basic, and that’s being generous by today’s standards but the gameplay was certainly fine-tuned. The pace was not fast, but this made overtaking a skill in itself. Like Stunt Car Racer the physics played an integral part of the game, especially on the stunt tracks.
Clearly the designers had fun with their new-found, 3D freedom as one section has you driving into an underwater tunnel and through the clear walls you can see whales and fish swimming by!
